Steely Dan Feature

Performers

Hey there,

in the meantime…,

I found this cool feature about the working process of Steely Dan’s iconic “Aja” record (Sept.1977) on Youtube.
Drummer Bernard Pretty Purdie is demonstrating his “Purdie Shuffle” he played on the song “Home at last” at around 40min20sec
and later on is shown rehearsing with the band.
What a slick touch, musicality and confidence of knowing what a song can thrive on. And apart from that a real nice evidence of the fact that everybody plays it “his/her own way”, all the different aspects and convictions of that person resulting in that groove.

Here is the link to Home at last and another good example of the Hit maker Purdie-groove, Babylon Sisters from the record “Gaucho” (Nov. 1980).
You might want to listen to how good these records sound, a real blast of crispness and warmth.
