Music as a way of life

Strategies

What is it that music brings to our lives?

It might be the equivalent of a magnifying glass held onto our bare existence. A movement of our inner workings is amplified with it and carried on to a different region of perception, one that is not so much dependent on one’s cognitive but more the reflective or repercussive sensibilities. Music reaches us without the mediation of the brain and yields immediate reaction, as a baby crying or a car horn honking evoke reactions without thought interfering. I conclude: Music is a powerful, potentially dangerous thing!

In these days Music is present everywhere,-a rug that we walk upon, a tapestry on our wall, and unlike music consumers in the 19th century who had to intentionally attend concerts to be exposed to the music stuff,-behold a couple of street musicians reaching out arbitrarily, without much ado we make good use of that fact. If we ourselves choose music to listen to, we match the mood we are in, up-tempo for the extra push to get the work done, down-tempo for relaxation and reflection, and with modern streaming capabilities we now are in the position to have the algorithm decide the mood-music for us, without even knowing what’s next in queue. Did anybody actually write that song or wasn’t it AI that spit it out. Do we still care if something is merely a means to an end?

Don’t get me wrong, I am not opposed to Music being entertaining, but since it might be one of the few languages that we can understand without knowing it’s vocabulary, we need to take care of passing down a basic understanding of the building blocks to prevent Music becoming a commodity. I should be dealt with according to it’s inherent powers.
